So jubilant were the USSR at hosting the 1980 Olympics that the chaps at LOMO were asked to pull out all the stops and produce celebratory models of their most popular cameras. Perhaps you remember the splendid Fed 5 Olympic edition? The Lubitel 166 also got a re-vamp for the Olympic Games.

This commemorative Lubitel 166 has one very significant advantage from its earlier models. It has a frame counter. This means that unlike its predecessors the Olympic Edition’s shutter cocks with the film advance knob. Whereas the older Lubitels had a simple window at the back to show the progress of the film, the Olympic Edition has a winder on its side. When you turn the side-winder it clicks once to show the shutter is cocked and then a second time to demonstrate the shot number. Another plus point is that in order to make things as simple as possible there is an easy-peasy weather symbol shutter-speed guide. It is also rather nice to look and its soviet Olympic icon gives it some added retro charm!
